Butchr Bar’s multi-use space feels like a more casual version of Curtis Stone’s Gwen and is reminiscent of the Butcher, The Baker, The Cappuccino Maker on the Sunset Strip and the notoriously shuttered Belcampo Meat Co.
He’s well known to wait staff across the city – the jovial, older man who dresses casually, enjoys a nice lunch at the bar, has a few drinks and engages bartenders in light conversation.
With black marble countertops and green accents, Umi by Eden’s ambience takes a strong page from other Japanese lounge restaurants in Los Angeles, like Nobu, Katsuya, and Koi, that offer sleek interiors with pricey sushi.
The restaurant’s owner converted the side driveway and rear parking lot into outdoor dining areas that include doggy doors for “perros.” The ample space between tables leaves plenty of room for dogs while diners enjoy five-spice duck with a cocktail.
Further down the list, a Columbus favorite ranked at #51.Terita’s Pizzais famous for their crispy “Columbus-style” pies, with a thin, charred crust, cut in squares, and loaded, edge-to-edge, with toppings.
Owned by Charmaine Dizon, the restaurant highlights her mother Helen’s recipes including classic Filipino dishes like pares (braised beef stew), silog (traditional breakfast), and halo-halo.
Over the years, the Art Deco bank building with its neon sign and ’50s pin-up girl paintings has captured the attention of notable regulars, including writer Charles Bukowski and members of ska-pop band No Doubt, whose drummer Adrian Young hails from Long Beach.
Walking Spanish, a modern Central American pop-up has begun a Sunday and Monday residency at Las Perlas in West Hollywood.
For entrees, the Ruby Murray chicken curry, smoked lamb shoulder with scratch-made flatbread, and chile-topped stracciatella pulled in-house with togarashi all feel like they’d be perfectly appropriate on a hip London menu.
And while that popular mobile cart isn’t going anywhere, you can now grab a carefully, and very thoughtfully, made latte or pour over at Two Tiger’s new permanent coffee shop, located at 3341 N. High St.
A lively cocktail lounge and kitchen is bidding farewell at the end of the month, and while the tight-knit, surrounding community is disappointed their local watering hole is closing, the owners are ready for their next journey.
Google says they’re permanently closed, and no reservations can be booked the rest of the month, plus the brewery and restaurant posted an Instagram story alluding to their closure, which has now been deleted.
